It allows devices within the area to connect and communicate with each other.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_2.png\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 600;\">WLAN: Wireless Local Area Network<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\">A type of LAN that uses wireless (Wi-Fi) connections instead of cables to connect devices.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_3.png\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 600;\">WAN: Wide Area Network<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\">A network that spans a large geographical area, such as a city, country or even globally. The internet is an example of a WAN, connecting multiple LANs together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_4.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_4.png\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"step16\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<h2>IP Address<\/h2>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\">An IP address (Internet Protocol Adress) is a unique identifier assigned to each device on a network, enabling it to communicate with other devices. There are two ways of obtaining IP Address:<\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\">1. Dynamic IP Address (DHCP): Assigned automatically by the router. It can change every time the device reconnects to the network.<\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\">2. Static IP Address: Device has manually assigned and does not change, making it suitable for devices that need a fixed address.<\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 600;\">Tip: <\/span>During events is highly recommendable to use static IPs for the important laptops (server, areas, info screens) so we can have full control on the network.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_5.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_5.png\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\">An IP address is made up of four \u00abgroups\u00bb (technically called octets), separated by dots. Each group is a number between 0 and 255. Generally, the first three groups represent the network address (which is the same for all devices), while the last group is unique to each device.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_6.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_6.png\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\">Example of a LAN connected to internet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_7.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_7.png\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"step20\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<h2>How to setup static IP Address<\/h2>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\">Right-click on the network icon in the system tray (bottom right of the taskbar). It sends small \u00abpackets\u00bb of data to the target device and measures how long it takes to receive a response. This helps diagnose network issues and test network configurations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 12px 0px 12px 0px;\">Press the Windows key and type \u00abcmd\u00bb to open the Windows Command Prompt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 12px 0px 12px 0px;\">To use it, type <span style=\"font-weight: 600;\">\u00abping\u00bb<\/span> followed by the IP address you want to test the connection with and hit the Enter key to execute the command.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_18.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_18.png\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\">If you see \u00abResponse timeout,\u00bb \u00abCannot reach destination address,\u00bb or any similar error, it means your device cannot connect to the specified device. This could indicate a network issue or that the target device is offline.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_19.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/set.sportdata.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Network_setup_19.png\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"-qt-block-indent: 0; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0px;\">At the end, you will see statistics including the number of packets sent, packets received, packets lost, and the average response time.
